JOURNALING: This female Antheraea Polyphemus moth was a visitor to our yard on March 2, 2017. It is one of the largest and most beautiful silk moths, named after Polyphemus, the giant cyclops from Greek mythology. Its large eyespots in the middle of the hind wings are thought to startle predators. These moths are found in Mexico, southern Canada and the lower 48 states except Arizona and Nevada.
