FEBRUARY 2019 CHALLENGE | SCRAP BY INTERVIEW

Happy February! This is always the hardest month for me to get through. The cold is no longer fun or “holiday-ish” and I’m just plain ready for spring! So what’s a girl to do? Well, I guess I’ll scrap and hang out here! This group is quite fun, and will get me through the February doldrums!

I’m bringing you a new challenge this month, and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have! This is called the Scrap by Interview Challenge -- because what you scrap is determined by how you answer five simple questions.

I’ll list the questions below, and you will need to reply in a comment below with your answer(s). At that point, I’ll PM you with your 'scrapping recipe'. No deviating from it, at that point, please. Then you will use the 'recipe' to create your layout... and you will come back to your SAME ORIGINAL POST (where you left your 5 answers), and add your layout image there. The trick is you can’t tell anyone what the recipe was! That way, no one can answer the questions based on what they want to scrap ! It sounds harder than it is... but I promise you, it’s fun!

Ready to give it a try? Okay, give me your answers to these questions:
    1. Would you rather roller skate or ride a bike?
    2. Would you rather go to the beach or the mountains?
    3. Do you like cats or dogs?
    4. How many layouts did you post in the gallery last month?
    5. Would you rather watch TV or read books?
I’ll go first! My answers are as follows:
    1. Would you rather roller skate or ride a bike? Bike
    2. Would you rather go to the beach or the mountains? Beach
    3. Do you like cats or dogs? Dogs
    4. How many layouts did you post in the gallery last month? 6
    5. Would you rather watch TV or read books? Books
Now here’s a look at my own layout, which was based on the 'recipe' I got after answering the questions above...

See how easy it is? The great thing about this challenge is that we get to know each other better while also making a recipe for a great layout! And don’t worry... on the last day of the month, I’ll reveal to everyone which answers were tied to which requirements.

I can’t wait to see your layouts!

    Here are the rules/requirements:
    • You must answer the 5 questions (shown above) in a new post, below, within this thread.
    • At that point, I'll PM you a 'recipe' for a layout -- and your brand-new creation must follow the recipe given. You can’t add or subtract from it.
    • You must use 100% TDP products, and your layout or project must be loaded into the gallery no later than 11:59 pm ET on February 28, 2019.
    • Once you've loaded your project image in the CHALLENGE GALLERY, please leave a comment in this thread and link us back to your project in the gallery.
    • Once you've posted your project here in this thread, copy the URL to that post and add it to the FEBRUARY 2019 TRACKING THREAD.
    • Have fun!

Thank you so much for playing along with my challenge! Sorry for the delay in posting the recipe. Daughter #2 had some serious medical issues and my dad passed, but we are slowly getting back to normal! Anyhoo, here is the recipe I used. Could you guess what it was based off everyone's layouts?!

    1. Would you rather roller skate or ride a bike?
    • Rollar skate = 4 photos
    • Bike = 2 photos
    2. Would you rather go to the beach or the mountains?
    • Beach = overall color palette of beachy neutral colors like tan, beige, ivory, foggy gray, subdued yellows, along with blues or whites or pretty pastels
    • Mountains = overall color palette of those found in nature such as greens, browns, blues, oranges, reds
    3. Do you like cats or dogs?
    • Cats = one or more either strings or ribbons
    • Dogs = one or more either buttons or circular flairs
    4. How many layouts did you post in the gallery last month? 6
    • Number of layouts = the number of elements on your page besides those listed in step 3
    5. Would you rather watch TV or read books?
    • TV = no journaling – just a large title or word art
    • Books = at least five sentences of journaling somewhere on the page

Oh I love the flowers in these pictures. I can't imagine being able to grow them, and I love the fact that these pictures were from 1942. They look so perfect!

    @mocamom
    In Photoshop,
I placed the large photo at the top of the page.
On a new layer, I used the elliptical marquee tool (second from top on left side) and held down the shift key to make a perfect circle about the size I wanted.
I filled this with black, using the paint bucket tool.
I put the smaller photo on the layer above the circle and clipped it to the circle. (Control+alt+g) You can drag the photo to get it the size you want.
I next selected the black circle by holding down the control key and clicking on the black circle icon in the layers panel.
Then go up to the top of the tool bar and open the SELECT pull down menu, then modify, then expand. I expanded by 25 pixels.
Leaving this selected. go to the original large photo and hit delete. It removes the larger selection from the photo.

For the rest, I used the same two papers but rotated one by 180 degrees and then used the eraser and circle brush to cut out a few circles from the top paper layer.

I hope this helps. It is not complicated but print out these instructions and give it a go.

Thank you Corrin for helping us! And this is a GREAT layout with the recipe you had! I love that cut out around the circular photo. May I ask how you did that? I want to learn too!

Sorry for the delay y'all!! We went to my son's speech competition and there was no WIFI and very, very limited cell phone coverage. Both were a huge surprise for me!! So I sent a PM to pbrooks, elainem, & Wendy Morris-Saponaro. I can't wait to see what y'all come up with and I'm so excited to see y'all's layouts!!!
